Floating solar power to strengthen energy supply in Zambia and Zimbabwe

Sector: Clean Energy
Status: Active

Swedfund is financing the environmental and social studies required to advance a planned large-scale floating solar power plant on Lake Kariba, developed by the Zambezi River Authority.

Zambia and Zimbabwe face recurring power shortages and are highly dependent on hydropower from Lake Kariba. Variations in water availability have made their energy systems vulnerable. The Zambezi River Authority is therefore planning a large-scale floating solar power plant on the lake.
