Increasing Tazania’s hydropower capacity and reliability

Sector: Clean Energy
Status: Active

The project’s overall objective is to contribute to Tanzania’s supply of flexible renewable power generation and enable additional integration of renewable generation and increasing economic development within the country.

The Government of Tanzania aims to increase the share of renewable energy in the generation mix to from 62% to 75%, which will require adding over 1,800 MW of generation capacity from solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro. To integrate and balance an increasing share of intermittent renewable generation, it is important to maintain and develop the current installed base of hydro power.
