Electricity Grid

Support a more resilient and stable energy system in Ukraine

Sector: Clean Energy
Status: Active

Ukraine has lost more than half of its electricity generation capacity because of Russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure. Ukraine has historically relied on nuclear, thermal, and hydro energy, but the full-scale invasion has caused severe damage to central generation and grid infrastructure.

Swedfund is supporting the project owner with a technical feasibility and commercial study in relation to the installation of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

The overall objective of the proposed feasibility study is to contribute to enhancing the region's energy resilience and stabilising operation of the energy grid.

Expected Impact

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will charge using electricity from the existing solar power station and from the grid during off-peak hours, and discharge electricity during peak demand hours. By utilizing the stored solar energy, the plant can reduce its reliance on grid electricity, leading to lower electricity costs.
