Supporting renewable energy in the Dominican Republic

Sector: Clean Energy
Status: Active

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the Dominican Republic’s supply of flexible renewable power generation and thereby enable an increasing share of renewable generation and economic development.

The Dominican Republic's electricity generation primarily relies on fossil fuels, including natural gas, coal, and oil. Renewable energy sources are increasingly being integrated into the energy mix. Though hydropower represents a significant portion of the renewable energy in the Dominican Republic, the share is smaller compared to fossil fuels.
