Modernising wastewater treatment in northern Ukraine
Introduction
Swedfund is financing a feasibility study and conceptual design for the modernisation of the city in northern Ukraine's wastewater collection and treatment system. The study will include technical, financial, environmental and social assessments and develop a prioritised investment plan in line with Ukrainian requirements and EU standards.
The city's wastewater treatment plant was built in 1987 and is now ageing, energy-intensive and unable to meet current treatment standards. Treated wastewater is discharged into the Dnipro River, making effective treatment important both locally and for communities downstream.
