Supporting energy transmission in Malawi and Zambia
Introduction
Malawi and Zambia face energy challenges due to insufficient cross-border energy infrastructure, hindering efficient electricity transmission.
The project aims to address the region’s energy challenges by building a 400 kV transmission line, facilitating cross-border energy trade and promoting regional development. The project includes an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and supports the Southern Africa Power Pool in the construction of a transmission line connecting Malawi and Zambia.
The objective is to strengthen regional integration and enhance cross-border electricity transmission, thereby addressing energy challenges, promoting regional development, and improving access to reliable and sustainable power supply in both countries.
