Swedfund's supporting public projects for climate action and resilience
Introduction
Sustainable and resilient infrastructure is essential for countries facing growing populations, rising energy needs, and increasing climate pressures. However, many promising climate and development projects are delayed by technical, regulatory, or capacity constraints. The Project Accelerator helps address these challenges by supporting public actors to develop sustainable, finance-ready projects that align with national priorities and strengthen long-term climate resilience.
Through early support, we integrate climate, environmental, and social considerations from the start and help build stronger planning and procurement capacity. This results in strengthening projects and makes it easier for our partners to move projects toward financing and implementation. Our approach also supports solutions that reduce emissions, improve essential services, and drive inclusive development.
Below are five examples that show how this approach leads to concrete climate action across countries and sectors.
Biogas production in Colombia
Swedfund supports the development of biogas in Bogotá, Colombia, to turn organic waste into renewable energy. The project reduces emissions, improves waste management, and contributes to a more sustainable and circular urban economy.
Floating solar solutions in Uganda
This project aims to increase the production of renewable energy in Uganda through floating solar installations. The floating solar solution adds clean power without using additional land and making use of available grid infrastructure. The project supports a more reliable and resilient energy system for a growing population.
Green transition in Egypt
Swedfund contributes to Egypt’s green transition by ensuring that the country’s transmission grid is developed to enable integration of renewable power generation at a large scale. The engagement helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels, enables a diversification of energy sources and support the country’s long-term climate ambitions.
Improved water and wastewater service in Ukraine
Swedfund supports improved water and wastewater services. The project supports strengthening essential infrastructure, reducing environmental impact, and improving living conditions for local communities.
Solar power energy transition in Peru
Swedfund supports the transition to renewable energy in the isolated city of Iquitos, Peru. Solar power with battery storage can reduce emissions, increase reliability, and lower costs. The support includes feasibility study, environmental and social assessment, and procurement preparation.
