Different ways Swedfund invests in climate action
Introduction
As COP30 unfolds in Belém, Brazil, the world’s focus is on accelerating the transition towards a climate-resilient future.
Swedfund is Sweden’s development finance institution with the mission to reduce poverty through sustainable investments in developing countries, and climate action is a critical aspect of this mission. Energy and climate now represent 40 per cent of our portfolio.
We contribute by investing broadly to target challenges of advancing climate action and sustainable energy development. Our investments are financing renewable energy, climate adaptation and mitigation, as well as green and digital infrastructure.
Here are five examples of our climate investments:

Serengeti Energy: Renewable energy in Sub-Saharan Africa
Serengeti Energy develops and operates small and medium-scale solar and hydropower plants across sub-Saharan Africa, where electricity systems remain heavily dependent on fossil fuels.
By increasing renewable generation and strengthening access to reliable power, the investment supports lower emissions, stronger grids and long-term sustainable growth.

Xurya: Supporting Indonesia's transition toward clean energy
Xurya enables commercial and industrial companies across Indonesia to adopt rooftop solar without upfront costs. In a rapidly growing, coal-reliant economy, this approach accelerates the shift to renewable energy, reduces emissions and supports greener, more competitive industrial development.

Mirova SunFunder: Investing in reliable and affordable clean energy in Africa and Asia
The investment accelerates the transition to sustainable energy in Africa and Asia. The investment is directed toward solar solutions that deliver affordable energy to underserved communities and businesses, addressing both the energy-access gap and climate challenges in frontier markets, particularly in Africa.

The Urban Resilience Fund: Meeting the challenges of climate change in Africa
TURF invests in urban infrastructure that helps African cities address the combined challenges of climate change and rapid urbanisation. From coastal protection to clean energy and waste management, the fund aims to build resilience, supports job creation and improves access to essential public services in climate-vulnerable communities. TURF is managed by Meridiam.

South Asia Growth Fund III: Increasing capital for green solutions in India
Through South Asia Growth Fund III (GEF III), Swedfund increases access to capital for companies scaling green solutions in India. The investment supports lower carbon emissions, helps raise sustainability standards and backs climate-smart technologies in one of the world’s most important transition markets.
