Together with TetraPak and a local entrepreneur, Swedfund is investing some MSEK 20 in Bhutan Dairy in Phuentsholing in southern Bhutan. Swedfund’s share amounts to just over MSEK 5. The dairy produces UHT milk, which has a very long shelf life without any need for refrigeration. This makes it far easier to distribute dairy products from the dairy to inaccessible parts of the country.
“A couple of hotels and a hydroelectric power station excepted, Bhutan Dairy is one of the very first commercial investments in industry in Bhutan, where financing is large based on the use of international capital,” says Arne Georgzén, Senior Investment Manager at Swedfund.
