Gamma Knife Egypt
The Gamma Knife Center in Cairo has the very first Leksell Gamma Knife - a laser knife for brain surgery – in Africa. The knife, which weighs a phenomenal 20 tonnes, was manufactured by Elekta. It is the outcome of a project that was largely run by Scandinavian Care Consultants in association with several Egyptian and Swedish investors. Swedfund has invested almost MSEK 7 in equity and has a representative on the Egyptian company’s board.
“Swedfund has done more than contribute venture capital and considerable expertise in the negotiations with the health authorities in Egypt,” says Scandinavian Care Consultants’ P O Juhlin. It has also involved dedication and functioning as an impartial shareholder, since Swedfund is a state-owned company.”
